The bike riding was a lot of fun.  It was just so freeing to hop on a bike and go wherever you wanted with a care in the world (and without fear of a nyc taxi hitting you)  This little town was a perfect location for a few days to unwind and relax.  I was even able to unplug a little (except for me taking a million photos)... but it was an amazing time and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nearby getaway from NYC.

My Experience:

When I was young, I always thought New York State only consisted of New York City... I had NO idea that NYS was such a huge, vast and beautiful state!  I sure know now... as a 30+ year old... and having gone to college in upstate NY... ha!  But even though I have explored NYC, there are so many parts of NYS that I have yet to see.  But I did find a beautiful hidden gem of a city in Phoenicia! It's a quaint little town about 2 hours outside of NYC.

Again, the reason why I even created this blog was to really highlight amazing places that you can go for R&R.  I scoured the internet trying to find "local getaways" and after hours of research I came across this spot and this adorable "inn", the Graham and Co.

It was an old motel that they recently renovated via hipster vibes.  So of course I had to go check it out.  The decor and the atmosphere of the motel was great.  But, it was literally like glamping.  We went in the middle of July (hot hot summer) and there was no air conditioning in the rooms we stayed at.  That was a negative for me... I can't stand being hot at night.  But the staff was super great and provided a fan for us... so I was able to make it.

My husband and I stayed here for our 5 year wedding anniversary, so we really just wanted to relax, sleep and read by the poolside.  I LOVE their pool!  It's clean, it didn't reek of chlorine and it was very relaxing to be there and there weren’t many people around.

The amenities were bare minimum.  Soap, shampoo, towels were really all they had in the rooms and I don't even believe there was any room service- but everyone was really great and helpful.  It really is a place for people to "camp" but a little nicer... I’m not much of a camper…… so…..

Every night they had a bonfire as soon as it was dark enough. They also had a recreational room, where they projected movies and had board games.  The lobby was always stocked with snacks, free coffee and filtered water.

They also had free bikes you could use.  That was awesome.  My husband and I utilized the bikes and road around town.  It's a small town, Phoenicia, so it was basically like a strip that was busy and about a 3-4 block ride down from the hotel.  In town, they had a few restaurants, a great Italian spot, ice cream shop, a grocery store and diners.  The magical Phoenicia Diner was a bit of a longer bike ride away, but we made it there 2 out of the 4 days we were staying.   (It was sooo good and there are so many things on the menu we wanted to try! And we come back here almost every time we head up to the Catskills now)
